The Ceiba Colón Partner Has Fallen

The Historical and Legendary Ceiba Colón Partner Has Fallen

With a sad and heavy heart, I am writing to inform that a beautiful historical tree has fallen to its demise. The partner tree, sometimes called the daughter tree, of the original legendary Ceiba de Colón has fallen.

The legend says the Ceiba de Colón is the original tree that Cristopher Columbus moored his ship the Santa María when he first arrived in the Americas. It can be seen Avenida del Puerto near the Puerta de las Atarazanas in front of Fuerte de la Carena and Fuerte de Angulo in the Colonial City. Now all that is left of the original tree is the large trunk encased in cement. (more about the Ceiba de Colón)

I was shocked to see this sight during a morning walk. The protector daughter tree was broken and being slowly cut and removed from the scene of her demise.

The Ceiba tree is known as the tree of life. Rest in Peace to the one time protector of the original Ceiba de Colón. I hope there will be another to take her place soon. The original tree looks so lonely.
