Carnaval Dominicano Activities 2016

Dominican Republic has been celebrating Carnaval since 1520 and we are still going strong! Come enjoy and participate in the madness! It will be an experience that you will never forget. Music everywhere, fun parades, vibrant colors, happy people and many many ooohhhs and aahhhs.

There are celebrations throughout the entire country with a wide variety of costumes and customs. Each town has their own versions of the costumed carnival creatures some can be beautiful, funny, cute and terrifying.

The big parade with the best of the best happens in Santo Domingo on the Malecon Sunday, March 6 at 4PM with a Grand National Carnival Parade Regional/ domingo 6 de marzo con un Gran Desfile Regional del Carnaval Nacional. It runs from Malecon Centro to the Obelisco Macho. All 31 provinces and towns will have their best to represent them and hopefully go home with the big prize. You can watch the Carnaval on the internet on Telemicro Channel 5.

*Carnaval Infantil – “Por el derecho a sonreir” Children Carnival Parade slogan: “For the right to smile,” will be March 5th at 10AM in Plaza España, Colonial Zone. The children are so much fun to watch parading in their costumes.

*Living Statues / Estatuas Vivientes exhibition will be held March 4th, at 5PM at Parque Independencia, Colonial Zone.

*The traditional Festival of Ali Baba / Festival de Alí-Babá will be in the Plaza España March 5th, at 2PM.

*The Carnival Music Festival 2016 / Festival de Música de Carnaval will be on March 5 at Plaza Juan Baron starting at 5PM.

Sunday 7 starts the festivities with the Diablos Cojuelos leaving their caves and presenting themselves to the world.

*Carnaval Ciudad Colonial – Saturday 13. A parade of vintage cars, scooters, and a host of colorful characters will parade through the Colonial Zone starting at 5PM. *Carnival Bonao The fun is on Sundays 7, 14, 21 and Saturday 27 in Feb. and March 13. The Carnaval Parade starts at 4PM on Avenida Duarte and ends with a show in Parque La Delicia. http://carnavalbonao.net/

Carnaval-Santiago-2016

*Santiago – Carnaval Santiago is on Saturdays and Sundays in February, culminating with the final parade on the 22rd in the area of the Monumento a los Héroes de la Restauración.
It will be televised on channels Teleunión, Telemedios, Canal 25, Canal 29 Teleuniverso and Súper TV 55 at different times.

*Carnaval Cotuí (Sánchez Ramírez) The fun will be every Sunday in February and on Saturday 27 atarting at 4PM at the Ayuntamiento Municipal wining through many barrios and ending at Parque Duarte.

*Carnaval of Santo Domingo Este – This is the 9th year for this carnival taking place on Avenida España on Sunday Feb. 14, 21 and 28 starting at 2PM. They expect thousands of people to gather. It will be transmitted live on canal Digital 15. The carnaval is in memory of Juan de los Santos.

Carnaval de Boca Chica 2014

When you thought Carnival 2014 season was over…hold on, it is not over yet! Carnaval in Boca Chica is coming March 22 and 23. They will have their typical carnival beings Neptune “Dios del Mar” / “God of the Sea” and Papaupa de la Matica plus others.

Over 50 troupes will participate from beach and coastal towns including Rio San Juan, Puerto Plata, Barahona, Bani, Samana and La Romana. All is coordinated by Roldán Mármol, the General Producer of this carnival.

This years carnaval is dedicated to the baseball player Junior Noboa.

Santo Domingo on the Malecon from Malecon Centro to the Obelisco Macho – The big one! – Sunday, March 2 at 10AM with a Grand National Carnival Parade Regional./ domingo 2 de marzo con un Gran Desfile Regional del Carnaval Nacional. There will be 180 troupes from 31 provinces. 10am. Frederick Martinez (El Pacha) is the King of Carnival and the Queen is former Miss World, Mariasela Alvarez. Marina Casa de Campo in La Romana will have their Carnaval de la Marina celebrations on Saturday 22 starting at 4PM. This years carnival is in honor of Juan Francisco Vásquez (Juampa).

Carnival Bonao Every Sunday in Feb. starting at 2PM on Avenida Duarte and ending with a show in Parque La Delicia. The kick-off of all the Provincias Carnival celebrations is on Saturday Feb.1 at 8PM in Parque Las Flores in Villa de la Hortensias. Santiago – Carnaval Santiago is on Saturdays and Sundays in February, culminating with the final parade on the 23rd. It will be televised on channels Teleunión, Telemedios, Canal 25, Canal 29 Teleuniverso and Súper TV 55 at different times.

Carnaval Cotuí (Sánchez Ramírez) Every Sunday in February and on Thursday 27. Live transmission at cotuifm.net and realidadtv.com starting at 2PM every Sunday.

Carnaval de Constanza – This year the Constanza Carnival will promote the culture of the area, the folklore, the wealth and agro-ecological. There will be activities on Wednesday and Friday of each week and on Saturday and Sunday starting at 1PM with the carnival groups, and artistic activities will be conducted throughout the month of February.

Punta Cana Carnival – Saturday March 8, 2014 with more than fifteen of the top carnival troupes starting at 4PM. At 7:30PM there will be a concert marking the official end of Carnival 2014 in the country. More info http://www.puntacana.com/

Carnaval of Santo Domingo Este – Taking place on Avenida España on the corner of Avenida 26 de Enero on Feb. 9, 16 and 23 – The bands planed for this year include Sergio Vargas, Sexappeal, Vakeró, la Nueva Escuela, El Jefry, el Chiquito Team Band and more.

Santo Domingo and National District Provinces – Every Sunday in February, Carnival Stops in the Capital in different areas. The mayor of Santo Domingo today announced that this year’s carnival will be held at Avenida Máximo Gómez between Avenidas José Contreras and George Washington on February 9, 16 and 23.

Three Day National Carnival Events Finale 2013

The two large obelisks on Calle George Washington, known as the Malecon, in Santo Domingo will join as one when they wed on Friday March 1st at 6PM. All are invited to these romantic nuptials. The palm trees lining the seaside road will be dressed in their best, lit up to the max, while they stand as bridesmaids and best men for the newlyweds.

This is a picture of the last week of being single they have before they take the plunge and become spouses.

The new “Boda de los obeliscos macho y hembra” / “Wedding of the obelisks Male and Female”, which is nothing more than a theatrical farce written by playwrite Félix Germán. Many officials representing the country will be present and the singer for this service will be José Antonio Rodríguez.

This ceremony is part of the three day weekend celebrating Carnaval Dominicano in Santo Domingo. The “Boda de los obeliscos macho y hembra” is on March 1st.

March 2nd is the Children’s Carnaval Parade/ Desfile Nacional Infantil with 70 troupes of children and youth aged 5 to 14 years from different provinces will be at Avenida de la Salud in Mirador del Sur. The fun for kids and the young at heart starts at 9AM with lots of kids entertainment including clowns, face painting, inflatable games and other children’s shows.

The 3rd of March is the big, hugh, grande National Carnival Parade/ Desfile Nacional de Carnaval on Avenida George Washington. Preciding over this years carnival are the King and Queen/ Rey y Reina Milly Quezada y Fernando Villalona. The best of the best of Carnaval with floats, music, dancing and a multitude of colors to fill every corner across this route. There will be about 250 troups from the 32 provinces of the Dominican Republic. This year there will also be representatives of the carnivals in Haiti, Belize, Colombia, Curacao, Guadeloupe and the United States, among others. All this fun starts at 3PM.

Carnaval 2012 grand finale has past. There are still a few carnival activities throughout the country but for the most part all the costumes, make-up and masks have all been put away.
