Grupo Bonyé Every Sunday

Grupo Bonye is a much loved band that plays many types of music including merengue, son, jazz, bachata and whatever they or the 10 and more musicians playing with them decide to play. Every Sunday the Ministerio de Cultura gives us this live music to enjoy and dance to under the start each Sunday in the Cuidad Colonial.

The shows are free for young and old alike. Everyone dances be it on the small wooden platform in front of the eerie ruins or trying to balance on the steep hill where the concert is located. You can see all ages and types dancing, even a few stray dogs that like to enjoy the music. If you visit the Colonial City make sure you stay on a Sunday so you can enjoy this cultural event.

Every Sunday at the beautiful and memorizing Ruinas de San Francisco this group plays under the stars starting at 5PM to around 10PM. There is usually always a crowd so if you want a table come early. If there is much rain they do not play but they are usually always there entertaining us all.

They also call the band Grupo Bonje y los Invitados. You never know what special guest they will have playing or singing with them. Some famous persons have joined in for a song or 2 including Joseito Mateo, Pavel Núñez, Marel Alemany and more. There is also some good story telling going on. You never know what you might learn from some historians that could show up and share something interesting.

The Ruinas del Monasterio de San Francisco are located on Calle Hostos, Restauracion, Duarte and Juan Isidro Perez (it takes up almost 2 city blocks).
