NOTE – The celebration has been canceled because of the Coronavirus. The traditional Sunday Market is still happening each Sunday.

Barrio Chino / Chinatown in Santo Domingo will be celebrating the Chinese New Year and The Spring Festival / Fiesta de la Primavera 2020. The all-day cultural and gastronomical celebration will be on February 2, 2020 on Ave. Duarte (off La Mella) in Santo Domingo.

The real Chinese New Year, also known as the Lunar New Year and Spring Festival, is on January 25th. This is the year of the Rat. The Rat is the first of the zodiac animals. Rats are clever and quick thinkers. They can be successful but are content with living their life in peace and quiet.

The Fiesta de la Primavera 2020. will be in the streets of Barrio Chino from 7AM (starting with the morning market) until 10PM on Sunday, February 2, 2020. The official party will begin at 4PM. There will be tickets for sale for drawings of TVs, cell phones, the New Year traditional red envelopes filled with cash, and many more prizes. Artists, shows and many other fun and entertaining and traditional Chinese activities will be going on throughout the day. There will also be activities for the children including face painting, music, gifts and a visit from a special clown. Plus many different street foods both Chinese and Dominican can be had. The band Ponchy Familia y la Cocoband will be closing the festivities.
