The training ship of the Spanish Armada / Armada Española “Juan Sebastián Elcano” has returned to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic after staying away for 6 years. This historical ship is moored at the Port of Don Diego until April 28, 2014 when it sets sail for New York (USA). The ships last stop in The Americas, it is scheduled to arrive on May 11. After this the ship will be crossing the sea returning to the European continent. The ship is open to the public as follows.
Friday – 10AM to 1PM and and from 1:30PM to 2:30PM.
Saturday – 10AM to 1PM and from 1:30PM to 7PM
Sunday – 11AM to 1PM and 1:30PM to 7PM.
This 113.1 meter (371feet) long, the third largest tall ship in the world, is a training ship. The Juan Sebastián de Elcano will be open to the public throughout the weekend so all can enjoy this impressive wooden ship. The ship is a four-mast topsail, steel-hulled schooner. It is named after the Spanish explorer Juan Sebastian Elcano, captain of Ferdinand Magellan’s last exploratory fleet. The Commanding Officer is Capitán Enrique Torres Piñeyro. The crew consists of 24 officers, 22 NCO’s, 139 Seamen and 5 Civilians.
El Galeón de la Constitución also known as “La Pepa” is on a Latin American tour to celebrate the Bicentennial of the 1812 Spanish Constitution known as “La Pepa”. These celebrations mark the first democracy in Spain when the constitution was originally drawn up in Cadiz in 1812.

El Galeón de la Constitución/ The Galleon of the Constitution is an exact replica of the Spanish galleons that for more than three centuries of the history of Spain was the Indies fleet that sailed from Seville to the Americas and the Pacific. They did trading and also cultural relations that linked worlds through the great oceans.
The replica, built between 2008 and 2010, has modern technology. La Pepa is 55 meters in length with 320 meters of surface and can hold 250 people. It has three masts and seven sails.
This ship will be open to the public in Santo Domingo from February 24 to March 3, 2013.It will be docked at the Puerto Sans Soucí.Hours: 9am a 5pm and will cost $200 RD$.
La Pepa will also visit San Juan, Puerto Rico (March 5 to 11, 2013), Cartagena (March 24 to 31, 2013), Colombia, Veracruz, México (April 15 to 21, 2013), Miami, Florida USA (May 3 to 12, 2013)and San Agustin, Florida USA (May 15 to 19, 2013).
