Are you looking for something to do in the beautiful spring / primavera season? Happy Hours, Concerts, Specials, Shows and whatever else is going in the Colonial Zone and surrounding area during the month of April.

The month starts with the Easter celebrations. Here in Dominican Republic it is called Semana Santa or Holy Week bringing many processions throughout the streets of the Colonial City with people proclaiming their faith.

During Holy Week most take a long weekend vacation. The beaches are full and the city is empty celebration the biggest holiday weekend in the country.

Remember to try some Habichuelas con Dulce. This is a Dominican tradition in English its called Sweet Beans. It sounds a bit strange but it tastes so good.

*Güibia Semana Santa 2015 – For those who do not leave the city there are pools set up on the closed down Malecon at Güibia. There are playgrounds, sports competitions and Christian music concerts, from Holy Thursday to Easter Sunday, at George Washington Avenue, in the section between Máximo Gómez and Socorro Sánchez from Holy Thursday / jueves Santo to Resurrection Sunday / domingo de Resurrección. There are pools, eight for adults and four for children with lifeguards present. There will be aerobics, face painting, clowns and sand sculpting. For older adults there will be table games like dominoes and chess. There will also be the traditional sweet, habichuelas con dulce, available for all. Starting at 5PM daily there are Christian Concerts with songs of praise to Jesus Christ with light shows and special effects. There will be karaoke plus many other suprises.

*The annual Good Friday/ Viernes Santo concert celebration is a big part of the Holy Week/ Semana Santa celebrations here in Dominican Republic. The concert will be in the oldest Cathedral in the Americas, Cathedral de Santa Maria, also known as Cathedral de Santo Domingo, Primada de América. at 8PM (get there early if you want a seat).

*The Semana Santa processions can happen throughout the week but the main procession happens around dusk at 5 or 6PM.
