4.9 Earthquake in Barahona 7-7-2012

There was a 4.9 Earthquake, also known as a terremoto, in Barahona, Dominican Republic today at 4:33PM in the afternoon reported the Centro de Sismología de la Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo (UASD). It was a few miles north of the providence (latitude 18.3 and longitude 71.2). Some reports are saying it was a 5.1 magnitude quake. The epicenter was centered in El Cacique in Barahona. The earths movements were felt in the South in Sur Elias Piña, Jimaní, Azua and Pedernales.

The regional director of the Defensa Civil, Augusto Moreta said there was no damage so far that is known. The people that felt this tremor were in the streets and parks discussing what they felt but so far there is not any reports of damage.
