They are doing a lot of renovation of the historical sights around the Ciudad Colonial as well as doing a complete remodeling job on the streets called Renovada Ciudad Colonial.
They just did an update – renovation of the Parque Independencia / Independence Park, Puerta del Conde / Door of the Count. This is the park that houses the Altar de la Patria. They covered over the beautiful old stones. Many people are not happy about the new – old look.
I am not really liking the new design but if you look at old pictures of the entrance to the park it looks like it did many years ago. I remember reading that many of the old buildings were stuccoed and covered over because they thought that there was disease in the coral stone used for building. I do not remember where I read this but it is stuck in my head.
What is your opinion? Do you like the new or the old look?
