Puente Flotanante Opening

I have never caught the Puente Flotante / Floating Bridge opening or closing until today.

The Puente Flotante connects Santo Domingo Este, Ave. España (Ave Malecon), to Districo Nacional, Zona Colonial and Av Francisco Alberto Caamaño Deñó (El Malecon). It has had many problems and is not in the best shape. Large trucks are not permitted to use the bridge and it is shut down often for repair work.

Walking the dogs, Inteliperra and Buenagente (Dominican Dog Blog) this morning the motors were running as we crossed the bridge. This never happened before.

We just made it across as they closed the blockades stopping humans, dogs and traffic from crossing.

They put the barricades down before all the vehicles had passed through so some of the fishermen came and lifted the block so the 3 vehicles could get out.

There were many official looking humans on the bridge as we crossed. It looked like they were doing an inspection because I saw no large boats approaching the bridge.

A Harbor Pilot, what I would call a tug boat, ship pulled up to the bridge then a larger boat with large vehicle tires surround it came and ran into the bridge.

The middle platform connecting both sides of the bridge slowly lifted.

The large boat kept pushing the bridge and it was moving.
