Jose Peña Suazo, originally from the province of Sánchez Ramírez came to Santo Domingo to play his trumpet and make a name for himself which he surly did. He played and directed msuic for many bands including playing first trumpet in La Orquesta de Cuco Valoy. In 1994, Suazo gained international success when he formed La Banda Gorda.
