Manhole Covers Repurposed

Yes, Dominican Republic does recycle. We also repurpose and reuse. Especially when it comes to manhole covers. We repurpose missing manhole covers with whatever is available so people do not accidentally fall into the gaping holes. Steal the cover. No problem! We take whatever is available to cover or fill the hole. Sticks. Palm Tree branches. Wrecked car parts. Old tires. Used pieces of wood.

I’m not really sure how to say manhole and manhole cover in Spanish. I see boca de alcantarilla, tapa de alcantarilla and tapa de pozo. I really do not know but whatever it is it is a coverless hole.

For reference here are a few pictures of covered manholes.
