The cool weather that November brings is very welcome as the humidity of the summer is gone for another season.

November brings us Baseball and the start of the Christmas season as the stores and streets are lit in all the bright lights ready for the Christmas Holiday celebrations. This month also brings the Santo Domingo Colonial Festival, the 3 day long party in the streets of the Colonial City.

Here is our list of things and events happening in the Zona Colonial and surrounding area this month. If you have an event you want added just send me a message of post in the comments. Also, remember, things can change. I try to keep up but the Colonial Zone is very active and it is difficult to find all the events.

Continuing events throughout November
*Happy Hour – at Harry’s every day 2×1 on select drinks from 2 to 9PM. Harry’s Bar and Restaurant, Plaza España.

*Culture – First Saturday monthly *Mercado Aleman y Multicultural – German Market at The Dominican-German Center, at Calle Isabel la Católica #212 from 11AM to 6PM. German sausages, breads, sweets crafts, pet items, a BBQ and cold German and domestic beers.

*Theater – Festival Internacional de Artes Escénicas de Ciudad Colonial – Theatros Libre /Free Theater Sunday 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th at the Teatro Las Máscaras, Teatro Guloya and Casa de Teatro. Click the poster to enlarge for more information.

*Art – MALEZA: Multiple Bodies of Work, la Contemporary Art exposición de la artista Quisqueya Henríquez producida en colaboración con Lucy García. Centro Cultural de España, Arz. Meriño, y Casas del XVI, Arzobispo Nouel #3. Estará abierta hasta el 22 de diciembre. / The Contemporary Art exhibition of the artist Quisqueya Henriquez produced in collaboration with Lucy Garcia. *Art, Music, Culture – ASOARTCA Asociación de Artistas en la Calle / Association of Street Artists Every Sunday starting at 4 hold La Escuelita de Musica del Conde / The Music School of the Conde this is to help the street kids and shoeshine boys to experience music, see people playing different instruments while sharing knowledge and helping them to learn to play and appreciate music and to spark their curiosity and interest in music. Many of the artists are well known Dominican artists that show up to help these children. It is fun for all and a great way to help a child in need. *Sparring Partners Project presents documentary films subsidized in Cuba, Haiti and Dominican Republic. They will be showing films under the stars in the Plaza del Convento de los Dominicos, Calle Padre Billini in front of Parque Duarte. This weeks films include “El Secreto Musical”, “Mawoulé, desmitificación”, “Caribbean Fantasy” and “Heroe de Culto” from 7PM to 10PM. Entrance is free. More information at sparringproject.org

Thursday 5
*Grand Opening – Today the much needed super market on Calle el Conde will be opening again under the Super Mercado Nacional brand. We have been waiting for another supermarket in the area and finally it is open.

*Art – Exposición: Desnudos at the Museo Fernando Peña Defilló, Calle Padre Billini 251. On the corner of José Reyes in front of the Iglesia Regina Angelorum. Starting at 6:30PM.

Holiday – Día de la Constitución / Constitution Day (official date). This will be a long weekend from Friday the 6th to Monday the 9th when the celebration of the day will occur.

*Theater – El Prestamista by Fernando Josseau and directed by Germana Quiintana. A play with drama, suspense and mystery in the lives of three characters involved in the death of the lender. Colonial Fest 2015 Schedule – Click to enlarge

* Santo Domingo Colonial Festival. 3 days of fun, culture, history, music and more. The main events will be happening around Calle Las Damas, Plaza España and the Fortaleza Ozama. Many of the Restaurants will have special prices and dishes.
Concerts in the Plaza España at the end of each day. There will be Mimes and clowns throughout the Colonial City to entertain visitors.
All the bells will be ringing at coordinated times. There will be train rides with costumed colonial era characters. The museums will have special events and prices and will be open in the evenings. More information colonialfest.org

*Art – Luz pa’l conde y nuestra Zona Colonial / Light for the Conde and our Colonial Zone! During the 3 day Colonial Fest the artist group Proyecto Artístico TRANSITANDO will be transforming the ugly metal doors all along Calle el Conde. Different artists of all ages will be painting these doors to transform the street into “EL PASEO DE LA MODA” / “The Fashion Walk”. Make sure to pass by and check out these works of art in progress.

*Sports – Segundo clásico de vitilla / Second Vitilla Classic at the Plazolita de San Anton, Calle Resturacion (behind the Ruins of San Francisco – number #19 on the Colonial Zone map) Vitilla or Bitilla is played using plastic bottle tops of the large water bottles or plastic discs as the ball and a stick. Similar to baseball or softball but a game all its own.
