Editorial:
They want to remove the works of art that beautify our unsightly light poles in the Colonial Zone. This art has gained attention world wide. Now, because of some misunderstanding, they want the art painted over. These who are enforcing this should worry about the bad nasty things in the Colonial City and take care of them before they worry about some beautifully painted light poles.
They want to remove this:
Yet they are not worried about just across the street on the wall of one of our loved historical churches and UNESCO historical site, Convento e Iglesia de los Padres Dominicos/ Convent and Church of the order of Dominican Friars, there is nasty graffiti on the walls.
They want to paint over this beautiful piece of art that does not offend anyone or get in anyones way.
Yet they will leave these dirty, smelly garbage cans to block the once beautiful new white sidewalk. People have to go in the street to walk because these cans are located in the center of the walk leaving a mess on what should be a passage for pedestrians.
They say this art on these poles violate the law and that they will paint over these poles but they do not worry about the graffiti on the walls and on the street signs or the wires dangling from above.
They want to paint over this art that only brings more beauty to our Colonial City.
Across from the UNESCO sight, The Cathedral of Santo Domingo, the new white sidewalk is embedded with dirt and grease from the garbage left sitting in the center of the walkway each morning. Is this the art they want toe world to see?
Do you think this art is offensive on Calle Padre Billini? I think this is beautiful.
But no one seems to worry about the streets and parks that have no lights. Parque Colon has tourists meet here daily to take the trip to Isla Saona / Island Saona. The tourists are afraid to sit there in the dark waiting for their guide to take them to the guagua to start their tour. They constantly ask me why there are no lights in the park or on Calle el Conde in the morning. But ADUANAS is more worried about painting over some light poles that beautify our historical city.
I suggest that these people try and get the priorities straight. Clean what needs cleaned and leave the things that are beautiful alone. Fix what is broken and do not worry about what is not broken.
