Bridge Mauricio Báez Before and After

The Puente Mauricio Báez over the Río Higüamo in San Pedro de Macorís. This bridge over the Higuamo River at the time of building was the longest cable-stayed bridge in the Caribbean. It is 626 meters long with the central span being 390 meters. It is valued at RD$ 1 billion pesos (at the time of building this was US$ 30 million more or less).
The bridge was inaugurated January 20, 2007 by then President Leonel Fernández.

I found some pictures I took February 2003 and wanted to share.
I remember taking these pictures. A friend was driving and we were talking. All of a sudden in front of us we saw this bridge being built. There were no warning signs. No road blocks. If we would have kept driving we would have fallen right into the river as the deck was not even down yet.
